(Halliday?and ?Hasan,1976:23)? 7.1?Phonological?Devices? Cohesion?at?phonological?level?can?be? achieved?through?sound?pattern?such?as ?alliteration,? assonance?and?rhyme.? Examples?see?P.154-155 The?alliteration?and?assonance?serves to? establish?some?kind?of?connection?or?among?the? item?that?are?phonetically?associated. They?function?as?important?devices?that?knit? the text? together?and?create?unity?of? discourse.? The?harmony?of?vowels?and?unity?of?consonants? greatly?reinforce?the?theme?of?the?extract-the unity?of?life?and?the?harmony?of?the?natural?world.? The?ingenious?use?of?these?sound?patterns?is?a? feature?of?creative?poetry.? The?rhythmic?patterning?in?the?extract?also? helps? to?make?the?text?stick?together. 7.2 Syntactic Devices Three?categories?to?be?discussed:?coreference,?ellipsis,?and?linkage.?
