Students who are interested can read Fung 272-278 and Chan 481-494 Cosmology of Chang Tsai His main contribution to the cosmology of Sung-Ming Confucianism is about Ch’i/Qi Literally, meaning “gas” or “ether” Fung Yu-Lan also explains it as “matter” in Greek philosophy (pp. 278-280) Chan translates Ch’i as “material force” (pp. 495-517. See especially pp.50
