Teaching Objectives To get students know the value of helping others. To understand the purpose of writing and organization of the text. To reinforce some basic linguistic knowledge by doing various types of exercises. Think Over: Describe the reactions in danger. Students are divided into groups to play the roles of the narrator, the little girl, the businessman, and the businesswoman.. Think Over: What is the theme of the story? What about the tone of the narrative piece? What’s the style of the story? Structural analysis of the text 1. Main idea: The story is the writer’s objective and vivid narration of her extraordinary, unforgettable travel experience on a plane for the purpose of praising good people and their fine deeds and bringing out superb touching human relations witnessed at critical moments. Part One (1-4) --- introductory paragraphs, telling us about the setting and the unexpected happening, and introducing some main characters Part Two (5-9) --- narrating and delineating the feelings, thoughts, and actions of the writer, the acts of kindness of the glamorous young woman and the behaviour of other fellow passengers on the plane when they were faced with the dangerous situations Part Three (10-12)--- telling the readers what they saw and did after they landed safely Part Four (13-14) --- The author thinks what is most important is to make known such nice people and their fine deeds and to pass on their kindness from generation to generation. 2.How is the plot organized? The plot is developed by means of the natural time sequence of the happenings ( chronological order) some difficult sentences, words or phrases 1. I reassured her that we were going to make it. Explain: I tried to comfort her by saying that we would manage to tide it over. 2. After this, London’s going to seem like small potatoes.
