In the first tune, Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss, I illustrate the “B” part in the upper octave the second time I play the melody. In addition to the usual hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides, we will be using two other ornaments. The penultimate line of each part of Beaumont Rag ends with a bend, where the second string is pushed toward the third string, raising the pitch to a “blue” note just short of a half step up. In the second part of the Cross-eyed Fiddler, we use an Irish style triplet figure, which I have labeled “grace” in the tablature. This consists of a hammer-on followed directly by a pull-off.
