定语从句写作训练（二） 在英语中，引导定语从句的关系副词主要有when, where, why等，它们在定语从句中作状语。 when引导 有when引导的定语从句，其先行词大多是表示时间的名词，如time, day, week, month, year等，when在定语从句中作时间状语。如： The day when / on which I met him first was May 1st. As a child, he used to work hard and help his father on the small farm where / on which he lived. 注意：如果先行词是表示地点的名词，但引导词在从句中不是作状语，而是作主语、宾语或表语时，必须用关系代词that或which引导定语从句，而不用where。如： This is a beautiful place (that / which) people all over the world look forward to visiting. why引导 由why引导定语从句，其先行词通常是the reason, why在从句中作原因状语。如： Nobody knows the reason why he is often late for school. The reason why he succeeded in the exam is that he worked very hard. 注意：如果先行词是the reason，但引导词在从句中不是作状语，而是作主语、宾语或表语时，必须用关系代词that或which引导定语从句，而不用why。如： This is the reason (that / which) he gave me for his being late. 此外，the way表方式，引导词在从句中作状语，则其后的定语从句可以用that或in which引导，也可以省略。如： I don’t like the way (that / in which) you speak to your father.
