The works of the Metaphysical poets are characterized, generally speaking, by mysticism in content and fantasticality in form. The most eminent poets are John Donne, George Herbert Andrew Marwell. Metaphysical Poetry Metaphysical poets used certain common techniques and employed a few common themes. Revolt against Elizabethan love poetry and the tradition.
