Koss Spring 2009 Course description This course will compose of three main sections. In the first section of this course, we will primarily study the history of imagology in France, Germany and the United States. There will also be reference to theories of imagology. The second part of this course will consider traditional and recent methodologies of image studies based on various theoretical presuppositions. For the final section of this course, each student will prepare a research paper using a methodology previously discussed in class. Syllabus Class 1 Introduction: Imagology and Comparative Literature. PART ONE Class 2 Imagology in France. Class 3 Imagology in France (cont’d). Class 4 Imagology in France (cont’d). Class 5 Imagology in Germany. Class 6 Imagology in Germany (cont’d). Class 7 Imagology in the United States. Class 8 Imagology in the United States (cont’d). PART TWO Class 9 Traditional Methods of Image Studies. Class 10. Traditional Methods of Image Studies (cont’d). Class 11 Recent Methodologies of Image Studies. Class 12 Recent Methodologies of Image Studies (cont’d). Select topic of research paper. PART THREE Class 13 Bibliography for research paper. Readings related to topic of research paper. Class 14 Outline of research paper. Readings related to topic of research paper. Class 15 First part of research paper. Class 16 Second part of research paper. Class 17 Third part of research paper. Class 18 Complete research paper. ASSIGNMENTS For each class there will be extensive reading assignments. Students will also be required to do oral and written reports. The final paper will be a study using one of the methodologies of image studies introduced in class. GRADING The final grade will be based on class participation (20%), oral and written reports (40%) and final pape
