The Major Features of Words and Sentences in Business Letters
I. Introduction
Foreign trade English belongs to major English. It has its own integrated and special system of expression ways. It has three major features: practical, close related with foreign trade matters, transmit business information and state foreign trade fact as its purpose. Business letter is a tool in foreign trade transaction to keep contact with clients. It plays an intermediary part in linking up the buyers and sellers. It involves
various links of business trade, such as establishing business relationship, enquiring, offering, countering offer, accepting, shipping, insurance, payment, claim and so on. Its contents are legal validity. It is an important part of foreign trade activity. With the development of economic globalization and external trade, business matter becomes more and more frequent. So business letters are becoming more and more important in foreign trade matters. This article will analyze the major features of business letter from its words, sentences and tones.
II. The feature of choosing words in business letter
1. The choosing of courtesy words
[1]Polite words can not only set up a good impression of the industry, and create harmonious atmosphere to make arrangement with buyers and sellers, but can remain space for everything to lay the foundation for deeper development of trade relationship. When you receive the business letter, no matter whether you are willing to receive or interested in it or not, you should use polite words to express your sincere gratitude.
(1)If you are not satisfied with the demand that your partner raises, your words should be polite and euphemistic. For example:
