Caveolae,characterized by high concentration of cholesterol and glycosphingolipids,are described as 50- to 100-nm flask-shaped invagination within the plasma membrane and are thought to play a role in important physiological functions such as endocytosis,intracellular cholesterol transport and cell surface transport.Caveolin-1,a principal component of caveolae,was the first discovered structural component of caveolae lipid raft.In addition to regulating cholesterol transport,Caveolin-1 has the ability to bind diverse array of cell signaling molecules and egulate cell signal transduction in caveolae.Recent studies have found that Caveolin-1 plays a certain role in proliferation,differentiation and tissue repair of stem cells.Her
