Generally speaking, the mechanism with both the beneath camshaft and the mid camshaft is mostly adopted the cylindrical timing gear drive. It usually needs just a pair of timing gears from crankshaft to camshaft. If the gear diameter is too large, an intermediate gear may be added. The chain drive is suitable for the overhead camshaft, but the reliability and the durability of the drive is not as good as that of the gear drive.
