3a This activity provides reading practice using the language. Call attention to Nicks letter to Tom. Ask a student to read the letter to the class. Then read the instructions to the class. Say, Please write the things in the letter that Nick did that day. Dont miss anything he did that day. Ask students to finish the activity on their own. Ask students what they wrote. For example, you can say, how many things did Nick do that day? What do you think of the day Nick had? Talk about what the student in the class like and dont like doing. Ask the student to write down their opinion. 3b This activity provides reading and writing practice using the target language. Read the letter to the class. Say blank every time you come to a blank line. Say, Now read the letter to yourself and fill in the blanks. You can use words from this lesson or any other words you know. Ask students to read their letters to a partner. Ask the partner to check that the answers are correct. Any answer that makes sense is correct. Move around the room and answer any questions students may have. Ask some students to read their letters to the class. 3c This activity provides writing practice using the language. Ask students to make a list of ideas before they write their letters. You can demonstrate this activity on the board with the whole class. Write three headings on the board, Activities, Places, Description Words. Ask the students to suggest words to list under each heading. Make a list of at least three things under each heading. Tell students they can use the paragraphs and letters in this unit as examples. As they start to write, move around the room providing help as needed. Some students may write only a sentence or two, while others may be able to write a longer letter. Correct as many of the letters as you can. Invite some students to read their letters to the class. 4 This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
