Colors have long been used to express or indicate the character’s features and fate. Thus the old man’s fate of only dragging the fish bone back is sure to be indicated in the previous passage. Chapter II The Usage of Color and Its Indication on the Old Man’s Fate 2.1 Blue Traditionally, blue is always associated with peace. However, in English, blue can mean quite differently. It is often related to bad mood. When we say someone is in a blue mood or having the blues, it means he or she is not feeling very well emotionally.[1] When the old man went fishing alone, his preparation kind of showed his fate of not bringing a fish back.
