Postgraduate Courses from the NBS Economics Division MSc Economics and Finance MSc International Finance Students’ Course Handbook 1. Introduction Welcome to the Students’ Course Handbook for these two MSc programmes, which are based at Nottingham Business School (NBS). This Handbook describes various aspects of your programme that you, as a course member, will need to know as you proceed through it. Among other things, it defines the overall academic and administrative framework, which is mostly the same for both of these programmes. Individual tutors will present you separately with much more detail about individual modules. Explicit recognition that allocating scarce resources is a universal human problem characterises much recent analysis involving the world of finance, among other sectors of the global economy. Activities and decisions in the finance sector affect consumer and organisational decisions, hence wealth and welfare, throughout society. These programmes entail learning to think, practice, speak and write about finance as a professional economist. MSc Economics and Finance This MSc programme at NBS features applications to live issues, including those of finance. The applications are informed by established methods of economic analysis which are relevant to many types of resources, including non-financial ones. MSc International Finance This MSc programme at NBS features application to live issues of international finance. The applications are informed by established methods of economic and related types of analysis, mainly of financial resources. There are two distinctive core modules per programme. The distinctiveness of each programme will also emerge in other modules, from guided choices made by individual students about themes or topics which could be addressed in their assessed work.
