Syllabusfor A One-Year Oral English Training Program 周 金 娜 The trainees The trainees of this one-year English training program under this syllabus should be the freshman of English majors of colleges and universities in China who have an essential command of basic English pronunciation and grammar and a vocabulary of 1500 – 2000 words. The allotment of training time This is a one-year training program that is to be divided into two equal and progressive semesters. Each term has 80 hours of training (including testing) and every week trains 4 hours. Table of curricula The training purpose The purpose of this program is through the massive spoken English practice to raise and enhance the trainees’ communicative abilities. Simultaneously, it helps the students to understand the cultural context and custom in these English-speaking countries. Specific goals as follows: First semester should put an emphasis on the language basic skills training, such as the pronunciation, the intonation, the grammar, reading , and repeat abilities. Second semester emphatically trains students to apply the basic language knowledge and clearly and logically express their viewpoints and thoughts. The training contents Train students pronunciation and intonation, simultaneously without grammar mistakes. Help students to master common expressions in various communicative situations. Train students to gradually grasp the expression skills from simple sentences to complex text. The teacher can select the suitable and concrete content from textbook to realize the purpose of various kinds of communication. Training methods In the teaching process, teacher should be as a guide and encourages students to actively participate. Insisting firstly listen and then speak. Teacher need to design various activities to practice oral English, such as question and answer, group discussion, role play, argument and so on.
