In the ready made clothing design of recent years, the close material has become an important design factor, as being extended as a simplex decorat ive material from the decorative material associated with the closure function. Button , as an important element among the close materials, has a history of more than 6 000 years . This paper expatiates the origin and development of buttons, explains methods of extending design of buttons in modern clothing design, including the combinat ion of functional and decorative design , and the design of simplex decorat ive.
