Brief introduction to Jane’s life Born Family Education Died on 16 December 1775 at Steventon Rectory , Hampshire A Christian family Her father is a clergyman. She was the younger daughter and the seventh child of family of eight children. She briefly attended boarding school in oxford, Southampton. But she mainly at home and read a lot of books by herself. on 18 July 1817 (aged?41) at Winchester, Hampshire Her notable works Of her eight novels, only four of appeared in her life time: Sense and Sensibility (1811) , Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815). Northanger Abbey and Persuasion came out after her death. The Watsons and Sanditon were left unfinished. Styles of her works Parody and burlesque Irony Free indirect speech Conversation and language Realism Romance Features of her novels Her novels always have a happy ending, however, the stories have complicated plots. Austen’s work has a very narrow literary field. She is particularly preoccupied with the relationship between men and woman in love. Her novels show a wealth of humor, wit and delicate satire ,as can be seen from her characterization of Mr. Bonnet in Pride and Prejudice. The theme of her novels is love and marriage . Her love experiences As Jane was finishing “ Elinor and Marianne,”《爱莉诺与玛丽安》 she was attracting the attention of several suitors. But Jane had no interest in them. When Austen was twenty, Tom Lefroy, a nephew of neighbors, visited Steventon. He had just finished a university degree and was moving to London to train as a barrister. He is very gentlemanlike, good-looking and pleasant. She fell in love in Lefroy. However, her parents wanted her to marry rich Mr. Heartley, whose fortune did not tempt her. She rejected his proposal. Marriage was impractical, as both Lefroy and Austen must have known. Neither had any money, and he was dependent on a great-uncle in Ireland to finance his education and establish his legal career. If
