* Flexibility: higher power, coverage, ... Signal flexibility and increased power levels, globally and regionally, is appearing more and more in GNSS due to crowded L-band. Trend well visible in GPS, adding up to 20dBs on regional coverage. EGEP has started preliminary design and feasibility studies (ID-18). Alternative frequency bands Crowded L-band raises interest in navigation services in other bands and with complete frequency separation of signals (especially for governmental signals). Alternative frequencies also interesting for acquisition aiding and time to first fix in difficult environments, like urban and indoor. This concept has also been investigated for GPS, with acquisition aiding data provided via Iridium. EGEP activities show opportunities in C-band, S-band, and VHF. Subject requires lot of international coordination. To proceed, recognition of interest necessary from mission authority (EC). Inter-Satellite Links (ISL) and better system autonomy GNSS providers interest in ISL increasing. GPS provides it mainly for NAVWAR purposes. In GPS III, ISL used to improve performance via faster navigation message updates to constellation. Similar capability will be included in Glonass and Compass. Main interest is up-linking all satellites from national territory. EGEP activities (ID-03 and ID-04) investigated ISL exploitation for reduction of number of world-wide ground sensor stations, beneficial to cost and security accreditation issues. System on-board integrity capabilities Integrity trends need more robust and autonomous satellites allowing some relaxation in the ground segments. GPS III plans onboard integrity detection. EGEP has started studying on-board integrity determination (ID-31) and advanced on-board clock monitoring control (ID-32). EGEP is starting investigating alternative integrity solutions like Advanced-RAIM (ID-42/43) exploiting on-board integrity capabilities.
