Prometheus Unbound Percy Bysshe Shelley Greek mythology In Greek mythology, Prometheus is a god with great strength and a friend of human beings. To improve the lives of humans, he stole fire from Zues and gave it to mankind.Zeus then punished him by binding him to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. Prometheus Bound Prometheus brings fire down to man and enrages Jupiter so that the god of gods chains him to the Caucasian Cliff for him to repent. Prometheus suffered a lot but refuses to give in. The tragedy ends trageically with the unswerving Prometheus hurled down into the abyss of the earth. Prometheus Unbound Though Shelley bases his work on the original story, he altered some parts of it. In Shelley ’s play, Prometheus is supported by Earth,his mother and Asia,his lover. Suffering a lot,he remains firm and refuses to submit to the injustice of Jupiter(or Zeus). Meanwhile, Prometheus’s lover Asia wanders from place to place, trying to find someone to help her save her beloved. Later she comes to the cave of Demogorgon , a god of the underworld and requests him to give her a hand. Demogorgon agrees and drives Jupiter from his throne.Finally, Prometheus is released and united with Asia.The whole world lives with love and freedom. Prometheus the liberator of human,the defender of human the symbol of kindness, love, freedom the ideal man depising authority and fighting tyranny with his indomitable spirit an undaunted hero full of noble ideas,revolutionary spirit and optimism symbolize the forces against the feudal autocracy Jupiter the symbol of evil tyrannical, selfish,cruel and devoid of sympathy the symbol of the european feudalists other images fire----------------
