These solutions take into account the full h : backreaction on the metric. We find that as we increase the energy of the excitation, the v i X energy gap to the next non-BPS excitation decreases. These solutions can be viewed as r a Kaluza-Klein monopole “supertubes” which are completely non-singular geometries. We also make some remarks on supertubes in general. 1. Introduction Perhaps one of the most distinctive aspects of gravity is that time slows down near heavy objects due to gravitational redshift. We now have many cases where we have dual descriptions of gravitational theories in terms of ordinary quantum field theories via the AdS/CFT correspondence.
