What is nuclear power plant? It is a power plant which generates the electricity by using the energy released by nuclear fission核裂变 or nuclear fusion核聚变 reaction. And the nuclear power plant in current business all uses the nuclear fission reaction to generate the electricity. The plants generally are divided into two parts: the nuclear island核岛 which produces the steam by using the nuclear fission （including the reactor device and circuit system), and the conventional island常规岛 which generates the electricity by using the steam ( including the turbine generator system) . And the fuel generally utilizes the radioactive heavy metals :uranium铀 and plutonium钚 . Advantages It has many security measures and multilayer security systems, which can efficiently control the pollution caused by radiation. It does not produce greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide The uranium used in nuclear power plant has no other purposes except generating electricity and making atomic bombs. It is convenient to transport and store the nuclear power plant fuel, because of its small size. The cost of fuel is low and stable compared to other power generation methods , and it is not easily affected by the international economic situation. Disadvantages The investment cost is high and the financial risk of electric power companies is greater. It will produce a lot of radioactive waste, and the disposal of the high radioactive waste is the international problem. There exists the serious thermal pollution in nuclear power plant because of the low thermal efficiency. The nuclear power plant reactor has a large number of radioactive materials ; if released into the air ,it will do harm to the ecological environment and the health of common people.
