Theme of the Poem The main idea of the poem is about nature. In the beginning, the poet compared himself to a piece of cloud to show his loneliness. However, when he saw the daffodils, he cheered up ,began to appreciate the beauty of them and finally found pleasure in his heart. Although sometimes we are fed up with earthly cares, nature can always give people inspiration, uplift the human spirit and heal the hurt souls. Thank You !!! Stylistic Analysis of Poetry By 程雨桐 2011300340091 贾怡珩 2011300340095 Introduction Poetry is a comprehensive term, which can be taken to cover any kind of metrical composition. However, it is usually employed with reservations. Poetry is a superior form of creation and therefore more serious. The Cloud----by ?Percy Bysshe Shelley I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers, From the seas and the streams; I bear light shade for the leaves when laid In their noonday dreams. From my wings are shaken the dews that waken The sweet buds every one, When rocked to rest on their mother’s breast, As she dances about the sun. I wield the flail of the lashing hail, And whiten the green plains under, And then again I dissolve it in rain, And laugh as I pass in thunder. Ⅰ.At the Phonological Level Meter In this part of the poem, Shelley mainly used iambic tetrameter (with dactylic viriations),i.e., four feet in each line. For instance, in “From my`wings are `shaken the`dews that`waken” there are four stressed syllables. But not to make it tedious, Shelley also adopted other patterns, for example, iambic pentameter, iambic dimeter and dactylic dimeter. Rhyme In terms of rhyme, Shelley chose mainly two kinds of rhyme in The Cloud, single/masculine rhyme and double/feminine rhyme.
