Ability goal: Enable the students to talk about festivals and customs in English and express or support an opinion with suitable expressions. 3. Learning ability goals Help the students learn how to decide a festival. Teaching important points Help the students learn to use the structure of expressing and supporting an opinion. Teaching difficult points How to compare a Chinese festival with a foreign one. Teaching method 1. listening to the picture( individual) 2. pairs work to discuss and work in group of four(cooperative ) Teaching aids A computer and a projector Teaching procedures and ways Step 1 Greetings Greet the students as usual Step 2 Warming up (talk about the pictures with the teacher’s help) T: Look at the pictures on Page 8. Each of them is a picture of a festival. Do you know the names of them? You can discuss the following questions with your partner. Qs: 1. Do you know the names of the festival? 2. Do you know which countries the festivals come from? 3. What are the people doing? Why are they doing this? (the students discuss for about five minutes and ask some students to stand up to speak out their answers) cf: These pictures are all about the foreign festivals in memory of the dead. The name of the festival in picture 1 is Halloween, which comes from Scotland and Ireland. The name of the second picture is Obon, a festival celebrated in Japan. The third is Day of the Dead.
