AutoCAD PortfolioTechnical Design Kyle Smith Semester 2, 2007 INTRODUCTION My name is Kyle Smith. I began at Singapore American School as a 7th grader. I took AutoCAD because I have always been interested in drawing and architecture. I felt that taking a class that specialized in these areas may help me understand the field better. I have also heard about CAD programs, but have never had a chance to use one. I knew that our school was one of the only ones to be able to afford these professional grade programs, so I decided to take the opportunity to learn how to use this powerful, futuristic system. This portfolio is a compilation of every project we completed in class. Introduction to Hand Drawings Before using AutoCAD Inventor and other powerful programs, we spent a few weeks mastering hand drawings. Through one border drawing and three block drawings, we were able to get a taste of how architectural drawings were done prior to computers. Border Drawing Before we could begin our first block drawing, we had to be able to create a border on our paper. Block Drawing This was our second hand drawing project in the class. We were given a wooden block to draw to scale using an orthographic pattern. It was challenging to get each drawing into the center of its area. Everything had to be calculated exactly. Ipod Hand Drawing This was our first and only free choice hand drawing. I chose my Ipod because I felt it would be simple enough to finish in a class period, but would also pose challenges with curves and shapes. I was really pleased with the overall outcome. After spending three weeks mastering the art of architectural hand drawing, we moved into using some of the AutoCAD programs. The first design program we used was AutoCAD Inventor.
