Step1: 观察与思考(请赏析课本中含有“过去完成时”的句子并口头将它们翻译成中文)
1. (L7P42) By the 1920s, he had become an explorer, searching for the tombs of the Egyptian kings.
2. (L17P42) The tomb contained more treasure than any of us had ever seen before, as well as the mummy of the king.
3. (L23P42) Upon their entering the tomb, Carter’s lucky pet bird, which he had left in Cairo, was swallowed by a snake.
4. (P48) Carter said that they had hidden the entrance to the tomb.
5. (P48) I had done my homework this morning before I went to the museum.

Step4: Present perfect or past perfect?
1. The present perfect tense is used when we are talking about a past event which relates to the present time.
e.g. Howard Carter is one of the most famous explorers the world has ever known.
2. The past perfect tense is used when we are discussing the past and want to talk about an even earlier event.
e.g. Not long after the tomb had been opened, people in Carters team began to fall ill and die strangely.
