This creates lines of magnetic flux which pass through a coil between the magnets. When there is a change in metal volume, the lines of magnetic flux are disturbed. This generates an EMF in the coil which is converted to a frequency by a voltage to frequency converter. Gamma Ray Gamma Ray detector is a crystal of Sodium Iodide. When a gamma ray from the formation or elsewhere strikes the crystal, a photon of light is emitted (the crystal scintillates). The level of light is too small to be detected, therefore a photomultiplier tube is used to amplify the signal.
