In the packet layer, the X.25 uses two types of PLP packets: information packets (I-packets) control packets (C-packets) The formats of the two types of packets are essentially the same except that the information packet contains user data coming from the upper layer. The control packet does not contain user data, however it may contain an information field necessary for the operation of the network. GFI: general format identifier (通用格式标识符) Q bit :not defined in the standard. Allow user to define. D bit: is used in packet sequencing. LCGN: logical channel group number LCN: logical channel number LCGN and LCN are used for virtual circuit identification. P(S) and P(R) carry the packet sequence number for flow and error control. P(S) stands for packet send and indicate the number of the packet being sent. P(R) stands for packet receive and is the number of the next packet expected by the receiver. This field is used to piggyback acknowledgments to information packets when both parties have data to send. In the short header, both the P(S) and P(R) field are three bits long. Three bits limits the size of the window to eight packets (refers to modulo 8). In the long header, each field contains seven bits. 14.2.4 Virtual channel ID numbers (虚通道ID 编号) X.25 allows up to 4096 multiplexed channels to be identified between each DTE and DCE. ID numbers are assigned to each channel to identify which packet belongs to which channel. 14.3 SUMMARY X.25 is the packet switching protocol used in ISDN (wide area network). X.25 defines the procedures for data transmission between a DTE and a DCE. X.25 protocol specifies three layers that correspond to the OSI model: the physical layer, the link access procedure, balanced (LAPB) layer and the packet layer protocol (PLP) layer. The latter two layers perform both flow and error control. the network layer of x.25 is called the packet layer protocol (PLP). This layer handles connection establishment and termi
