AbstractTherecoveryofthe3Dvisualstructureofascenefrom2Dimageshasbeenafundamentalgoalofcomputervision.Itsresearchachievementscanbeapplieddirectlyinfieldsofrobotics,medicine,preciseindustrymeasurement,remotesensing,visualrealityandetc.Thishasapromisingfutureandapplicationvalueinnotonlymilitarybutalsocivilfields.Howevervisualtaskswereill-posedinverseproblem,recoveringtheinformationwhattheimagingsystemlostwasimpossibleonlybypostprocessing.Thereforeifonewantedtoinfermodelsofobjectsandrecognizethemaccurately,effectivelyanduniquely,mustdesignthemethodofobtainingimagebasedonperformanceofimagerecoveryalgorithm,andexploitmoreusefulinformationfromimages.InthestudyandapplicationoftheThree-Dimensionreconstructiontechnology,weoftenfoundthatthedefocusedimagesobtainedbychangingthecamera’sinnerimaginggeometryincludedscenegeometricalinformationbesidesgrayvalue.Thedefocuscuesindicatedthedepthinformationofthescene.Recoverthedepthof3Dscenefromdefocusimageswasreferredasdepthfromdefocus.Thismethoddidnotneedtochooseandmatchthecharacterpointsavoidingcomplicatedcalculationwhichotherestimationhad.Thepaperconcentratedonhowtoreconstruction3Dstructuresofobjectsbydefocusimages.Basedonthecomprehensiveanalysisofthedepthfromdefocustechnology,theproposedalgorithmsachievedbetterexperimentalresults.Themaincontributionsandtheconcreteimprovementsofthepreviousworkwereasfollows:Anovelcameraparametercalibrationmethodfordepth-from-defocuswasproposed.Theproposedmethodestimatedblurleveldifferencebetweenthetwodefocusedimagesofthesamesceneobtainedbychangingcamera’sFnumber.Thenwecancalibratetherespondingcameraparameterscombiningwithimaginggeometryofthethinlens.ThisalgorithmrelievedtherequestofcalibrationalgorithmgivenbySoon-YongParkthatoneoftheimagesusedincalibrationmustbefocused.Andtheproposedalgorithmwasvalidwithoutprocessofscalenormalization.Finally,calibratedparametersyieldedconsistentresultsindepthestimation.Theproposedalgorithmwastestedusingsyntheticandrealimages.Theresultsobtainedwerevalid.Thispapermadeani
