O ne part is the adaptation and response of the topography and natural climate; while the other part is performing the abstract and invisible spiritual needs into the certain specific form which would be substantial, tangible and have direct feelings. Most of the traditional settlement in the northern Shaanxi is not only far away from the developed areas, but also has experienced a long time of completing and accumulating to obtain the firmness; so they have highly lasting appeal of original and the characteristics like simple, true and forthright is retained in a greater degree. However, if the planning and designing of the cultural industry park which is relying on the distinctive culture in northern Shaanxi is going to reflect the characteristics and culture in the Northern Shaanxi, it is necessary to clarify the distinguishing feature of the traditional settlement there, carry them on and make them developing.In the second chapter of the tesis, the image of the traditional settlement in northern Shaanxi is discussed from the perspective of occupants, writers and researchers. And then in the third chapter, based on the research that the author did in several typical traditional settlements in northern Shaanxi, levels of analysis of the traditional settlement of northern Shaanxi has been specifically made from the space system (including the overall layout, traffic arranging, node, field), to courtyards, cave- housemonomers and local landscape, and the characteristics of each element has been summarized.The forth
