Negation and Affirmation 英语在表达否定方面，从词汇手段到表达方式都与汉语有很大区别。 词汇方面，英语表达否定的词比汉语多，按词分类，有名词、代词、动词、形容词、副词、介词、连词等。按意义分类，有全部否定、部分否定、双重否定。就表达方式来说，有用单词和词组表示的，也有用特殊结构表示的。有些单词或词组还有一些特殊的习惯用法。 全部否定(full negation) 英语表示全部否定的词有 not, no, never, none, nobody, nothing, nowhere, neither…nor等. 物质既不能生又不能灭。 Matter can neither be created nor destroyed. 不能否认这些事实。 There is no denying of the facts. 部分否定(partial negation) 英语中，在谓语动词前面的not，有时并非否定谓语动词，而是否定其他成分；而汉语中的否定词如“不”，“非”，“没有”等都直接放在被否定词的前面。 我没有把他们的名字全记住。 I don’t remember all their names. 他们的名字我全都记不得了。 I remember none of their names. 双重否定(double negation) 双重否定是一种富于修辞作用的语法结构，起强调作用和加强语气的作用。 他那么敏感，不会不注意到的。 He is too sensitive not to notice that. 他的学说并非没有可以反驳之处。 His theory is not unobjectable. 3.来自莫斯科的列车很快到达。 The train coming from Moscow will arrive in no time. 4.俗话说，“男儿有泪不轻弹，皆因未到伤心处”嘛。 As the saying goes, “Men only weep when deeply hurt.” 5.一分耕耘，一分收获。 No pains, no gains. for emphasis or rhetorical effect 1.同行是冤家。 Two of a trade did never agree. 2.这个惨痛的历史教训，我们全党同志一定要永远记取，引以为鉴。 No comrade in the Party must ever forget this bitter lesson and we must all take warning from it. 3.我们讨论问题时，不能忘记这些基本点。 These basic concepts must be kept in mind in our discussion. 4.党的十七大充分表明我们党后继有人。 The 17th National Congress of the CPC fully demonstrates that our Party has not lack of successors. to convey exactly the original meaning 1.失去尾巴后才知道尾巴有用。 The cow knows not the worth of tail till she loses it. 2.与其他人相比，他是位非凡的教授。 Compared with others, he is no ordinary professor. * *
