A mass air flow sensor is installed inside the intake air duct between the air cleaner and the intake manifold of the engine. A mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. Often an intake air temperature sensor (IAT) is also installed within the mass air flow sensor. There are few types of air flow sensors, however a hot-wire type is used the most in the modern cars.
