Approximately 50% of the human population is colonized with H.pylori in the gastric mucosa. Colonization often remains asymptomatic but can progress into gastritis, gastric ulcers, and gastric cancer. Over the two decades, amount studies have demonstrated that H. pylori infection is associated with a marked infiltration of immune cells into the gastric mucosa. Initial studies have shown that H.pylori infection results in Th1-dominant responses, which lead to the elevated production of associated cytokines such as interferon (IFN)-γ，interleukin (IL)-1，IL-2 and IL-12. However, IFN-γ secretion alone is insufficient to induce gastritis. More recent studies have shown that H. pylori-associated gastritis is also marked by elevated levels of Th17 cells which characterized as preferential producers of IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-21, and IL-22. However, both of Th1 and Th17 immune response cannot completely explain the detail mechanism of H.pylori infection. Recently, a new discovered T cell type- Th9 cell had been widely researched. Th9 cells are the major producers of IL-9. Initially, IL-9 was considered as a Th2 associated cytokines.
