It is closely related to the Spring Festival. It’s traditionally a time for family to get together. Now people celebrate it by hanging lanterns and eating tangtuan, which symbolizes reunion, harmony and happiness. The lanterns are almost always red to symbolize good fortune. Yuanxiao, sweet dumplings made of sticky rice flour, are special to the Lantern Festival. During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns. The game of guessing lantern riddles is also a must on the Lantern Festival. Lantern riddles are a peculiar game of the Chinese characters. The answer of a riddle is hidden behind a beautiful poem or some common sayings which are written on the paper sticked on the festival lanterns, and the visitors of the lanterns should try to find it out. Qingming Festival Qingming Festival or Tomb Sweeping Day usually falls around April 5 each year. It’s the day for mourning the dead. It corresponds with the onset of warmer weather, the start of spring plowing and of family outings. Chinese people mark it by visiting the graves of deceased family members. Besides tidying up the sites, some Chinese also burn fake paper money and models of homes and cars so that loved ones can live comfortably in the afterlife. They often go outdoors and fly kites. At the same time, people enjoy the greenery of springtime, but it is mostly noted for it
