第二次课Paper Production in China New words 难点 Reading Practice(1) News Headlines DuPont Raises Titanium Dioxide Prices in Asia (8/26/2008) DuPont Titanium Technologies, Singapore,today announced a price increase for all of its Ti-Pure titanium dioxide grades sold in the Asia Pacific region. Effective September 15, or as permitted by contract, prices for all titanium dioxide grades will increase $200 per ton in Asia, except the Peoples Republic of China and Japan. Also effective September 15, or as permitted by contract, prices in China will increase by 2.0RMB/kg. This increase is in addition to those announced in June. In the U.S., DuPont Titanium Technologies operates plants at DeLisle, Miss, New Johnsonville, Tenn., and Edge Moor, Del. Other plants are located at ,Altamira, Mexico, and Kuan Yin, Taiwan. All DuPont plants use the chloride manufacturing process. The company also operates a plant in Uberaba, Brazil, for finishing titanium dioxide and a mine in Starke, Fla. Demand for TiO2 remains strong. Higher raw material, energy, and transportation costs continue to impact our manufacturing expenditures, said Ian Edwards, global business director, DuPont Titanium Technologies. Energy efficiency and productivity initiatives have offset some of this impact, but this price increase is necessary for continued investment in global fulfillment, quality offerings and value to customers. Reading Practice(2) Dow Reichhold to Cease Operations (8/20/2008) Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex, a 50/50 joint venture between The Dow Chemical Co. and Reichhold Inc., has announced the planned sale of certain business assets, the permanent closure of all facilities, and the intention to cease all business activities before the end of 2008. The joint venture operation, formed in January 2002, manufactures and markets synthetic latexes used in a variety of industrial applications including specialty papers and nonwovens. Dow reportedly intends to buy back those business assets origina
