What needs to be included in a thank-you letter. 2. Appropriate greetings and closing for thank-you letters. 3. How and when to write formal and informal thank-you letters. II. Teaching Tips 1.Formal and informal greetings in thank-you letters are the same as invitation letters. 2.Be sure to show genuine gratitude in your letter. It will make the person who gave you something happy and want to do it again. III Teaching Procedure Step1 Warm up It is polite to thank someone when they give you something or do something for you. Informal thank-you letters are often written by hand. Formal thank-you letters should be typed. Most thank-you letters include the following parts: 1. Statement of gratitude ; 2. How was what they gave/did for you helpful; 3. Mention the time you last saw them; 4. Another statement of gratitude to end the letter. Step2 Presentation It is important in thank-you letters to sound truly thankful. Make sure your letter doesn’t have the tone that you are writing the letter because it is what you have to do but because you are really thankful and want to write the letter. Case 1 Dear Mr. Rogers: It is my great pleasure to show my hearty thanks to you for your hospitality to me during my trip in London. Originally I only wanted to call on you and gave my father’s regards to you. But you insisted that I stay in your house during my visit in London, and you took good care of my life as if I were a family member of you. You really added greatly to my convenience and pleasure of the whole trip. Thank you again for your kindness and I hope that I will have the opportunity to return your charming hospitality.
