I. INTRODUCTION
1. The National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC)
was established by the Department of Culture of the Government of India in 1976.
It has already acquired a large amount of equipment and is constantly trying to
develop its facilities in several directions. Rapid advancement has been achieved
in the field of stone conservation, but there are still many unsolved problems.
With this background, the present Consultant was asked by UNDP to come to Lucknow
and work at the NRLC with the following aims in mind:
(i) Setting up a Stone Laboratory;
(ii) Organizing a training course for NRLC technical staff.
