The Web, as originally conceived, is ideal in support of a ‘mostly’ One Way Process: Web-developers; build Web-sites (using HTML), consisting of several hyperlinked Webs, and upload them to Web-servers which are connected to the Internet. Web-users; visit Web-sites, via their Internet connection, and click on hyperlinks in order to explore the Webs. i.e.: Web-users request a remote Web, and fixed Web-site content (i.e. the same for everyone) is delivered to them from a remote Web-server. A WebRequest The need for Interaction? The mostly One Way potential of the Web was OK; i.e. in the early 90s. However, Business wanted more once they had adopted the Web;. i.e. by the mid 90s, Therefore; most modern Business Web-sites support Two Way interactions between the Business and their Customers. Types of Interaction? Simple “mailto:” Hyperlinks; ideally with the ‘subject’ set to a known value. Moderate Web-based Forms; with ‘Thank You’ pages, and e-mail responders. Complex Hyperlinks (with parameters) and/or Web-based Forms; linked to databases, using scripts and/or external programs. Complex Interaction via Hyperlinks (with parameters) and/or Web-based Forms I do NOT intend to cover such ‘Complex’ Interactions here; as you do not need to acquire these skills; i.e. in order to complete the WSD Assessment. However, if you take the Dynamic Web-site Development (DWSD) Module next Year; then you will acquire these skills, as they will be required; i.e. in order to complete the DWSD Assessment. Simple Interaction; via “mailto:” Hyperlinks Advantages Easy to Implement; a modified form of hyperlink. Flexible; allows Customers to ask any questions they want, in any way they want to. Establishes Contact; in that the Business gets the e-mail address of a potential customer, which they might then use also for ‘targeted’ marketing purpose
