Guidance on: GUIDANCE ON: ‘Flying High’ Working together to build a successful future for all Our multicultural school values and promotes a happy, safe and caring environment that is committed to helping all children experience success, whatever their background or abilities, and to ensure they achieve the highest standards in all they set out to do. The health, safety and well being of every child is our paramount concern. Introduction At Hornbill School we consider the welfare and safety of all our children is key to ensuring their happiness in school and continued progress. The law requires teachers to provide a level of care for children, which would reasonably be expected of an able and prudent parent. This policy is based on the Child Protection Procedures agreed by SCE’s Child Protection Committee, which in turn is based upon the Working Together to Safeguard Children – produced by the Home Office and DfES and Department of Health in 2006. The Children’s Act 1989, and more recently 2004 has made quite clear that the welfare of the child is paramount and Every Child Matters legislation. Working Together requires all professional working with children to rethink how we apply that principle. Staff working in school have a statutory duty to report to the Designated Child Protection Teacher and subsequently to the Social Worker where they have any reason to believe that a child has suffered from abuse or may be at risk of significant harm. We take our partnership with parents seriously and believe that we should work with parents for the benefit of our children. We try to make sure our relationship with each child’s parents supports their education in school and when we have concerns we normally discuss them with parents in the first instance. There may be occasions on which our statutory duties to report child abuse conflict with our wish to sustain close and open relationships with parents.
