Lesson Plan Xiao Li/ Grade 2 Background information: Title: What’s the matter? Lesson: Unit 2, Book 1, section A Students: Junior high school students, Grade 2 Lesson duration: 40 minutes Teaching objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: learn to talk about illness be familiar with two means of expression “have a +疾病名称/ have a sore + 患病部位 ” be familiar with some sentence patterns “What’s the matter with sb. /sth? You should do…” Teaching contents: Lead-in: review the words we’ve learned, such as: nose, eye, ear, mouth, cold, fever, stomachache, sore back and so on. Learning: lead students to learn the two means of expression, “have a +疾病名称/ have a sore + 患病部位” Listening: listen to the radio and fill in the blanks on page 8 Summarizing: summarize what we learn today Group work: divide the whole class into many groups and let each group make a conversation to practice what we’ve learned. Fun time: enjoy a song to relax and help some students who still have questions. Focal and Difficult points: Focal points: Use these two means of expression “have a +疾病名称/ have a sore + 患病部位” skillfully. Remember the key words exactly: nose, eye, ear, mouth, cold, fever, stomachache, sore back and so on. Difficult points: Learn to use some sentence patterns “What’s the matter with sb/sth?” to ask what’s wrong with sb/sth Use the module verb “should” to give others advice flexibly. Teaching aids: Multi-media, book, radio, blackboard, chalk Teaching procedures: Step 1. Lead-in Revise the words of parts of body. Let a student stand on the stage and point some parts of his body to ask what is this/that in English. Do an interesting game called “kick up one’s heels” Let students think about the words of describing illness and speak them out, such as: cold, fever, stomachache, toothache, and headache. Aim: arouse students’ interests and lay a foundation for the following teaching. Step 2. Learning Lead students to learn to use the two means of expression.
