Slide 10 Refer to the handout and remind the audience that Questions will be answered at the conclusion of the presentation. Slide 11 Resistance to capsize is a critical principle of the SR. This draws the owner’s attention to the boat’s integrity, fitness for purpose. Presenters should not get involved with the merits or shortcomings of various methods referred to in establishing Resistance to Capsize. Such discussions are for trained measurers not Auditors/Inspectors. SSS Base Values stated are increased by factors for safety equipment carried in the various rating rules. These factors appear to have been reduced from the previous SRs but are in line with directions suggested by the rating authorities and will increase when the ‘safety factor’ is applied. Categories 3 to 6 the Screening Value method is simple and inexpensive. Each Owners knows the length of their boat and its displacement. That’s all that is needed. Anyone with a calculator can do the calculation using the formula in the Appendix. Some MYAs do not believe the SV is sufficiently robust. In such cases or where the SV formulation gives a marginal result any one of the other methods in the Appendix can be used eg requiring an RMI.
