As a scholar, he was wide-ranging, got chievements in poetics, the theory of comparative literature, western literature translation, art and education. Many famous scholars had taught him when he was in Southwest Associated University. He took the theory of comparative literature as the stone of his criticism, and focused on Lu Xuns early romantic poetics. Detailed textual research and innovative point made him a pioneer in the field of comparative literature studies on Lu Xuns theory. He translated a lot of foreign novels, poems, and paid attention to the study of the translation theory. His memoirs were exquisite and showed the spirit of the age on the intellectuals of Southwest Associated University.
