What has become clear, through highly publicized failures and countless less-exposed project failures, is that Good IT outcomes DO NOT equal good business outcomes. We see this everyday. During development, software engineers with the most current development frameworks and debugging tools have improved the efficiency and speed of their code, but somehow missed the business requirements, so even if they reach the highest levels of code testing, the business process still fails because the business requirements were missed. And what’s more, the vast monitoring frameworks deployed to ensure the systems you’ve invested in to support IT may read Green across all the infrastructure tiers, but employees and customers continue to experience poor service availability – costing your company time and revenue. Mercury has addressed this rift between IT and the business by always focusing first on the business outcome of IT, rather than the code or systems level. At the core of our business, supporting your ability to deliver positive business outcomes, is Quality. Script: The Corporate Executive Board, an organization that offers executives guidance in driving better decision making, provided an interesting statistic in December 2008. They stated, “Economic downturns can more than double the likelihood that a business significantly changes its industry ranking, and those that make it into the top quartile during a downturn, sustain their market premium for an average of three years.” From our own research, HP knows that 99% of CEOs believe technology is integral to the success of their companies. And 38% of respondents see the current economic climate as an opportunity to restructure their technology environments for the future. Today, technology no longer supports the business, it powers the business.
