虚拟语气（The Subjunctive Mood） 一　在If only…句中 If only…句表示一种愿望或是向往的假设，其意义是要是……就好了 If only I were a bird. If only I had met you in the party yesterday. If only he would find a satisfactory job after his graduation. 二　主语从句 1.在It + be +形容词/ 名词 + that从句的结构中，由于某些形容词/ 名词，that从句中的谓语动词要用虚拟式“should + 动词原形”或省略should。  essential（绝对必要的）, important（重要的）, advisable（明智的）, desirable（希望能够的）, natural（自然的）, necessary必要的）, regretful（遗憾的）, strange（奇怪的）, duty（义务、责任）, a pity（遗憾）, no wonder（难怪）, a regret（遗憾） It is strange that he ( should ) say so . It is a great pity that you ( should ) think so . It is natural that a bird ( should ) rest in trees . It is necessary that he be sent to Beijing right away. 2.It +be +p.p +that command（命令）, demand（要求）, desire（希望）, insist（坚持）, order（命令）, propose（提议）, recommend（推荐）, request（要求）, require（要求）, suggest（建议），advise (建议） It is demanded that we (should) finish the work ahead of time. It is suggested that the English evening be held on Saturday. It is required that everyone should take part in this activity. 三　表语从句 １．在表语从句中，如果主句的中心名词是advice, suggestion, proposal, order, request, requirement, demand,等时，需用虚拟语气，should＋动词原形，或should省略 My suggestion is that he leave for London at once . His requirement is that we should do everything by ourselves. 2.It looks as if … 在这个句式中如果实现的可能性较大，就不用虚拟语气，实现的可能性较小或根本不可能实现，就用虚拟语气． The doctors did their best but nothing worked ,it looks as if he is going to die. I have a bad headache , it looks as if I were going to die. It looks as if she were 10 years younger. It looks as if the chopstick were broken. It looks as if he had seen it by himself yesterday. It looks as if he would go there alone. 四　同位语从句 　当同位语从句的中心词是advice, suggestion, proposal, order, request, requirement, demand,等时，需用虚拟语气，should＋动词原形，或should省略 What do you think of his proposal that we ( should )put on a play at the English evening? 定语从句 在It is (high) time that…从句中在这个句型中的that…从句里，无论何时、何人称，其谓语动词都用过去式。 这个句型表达的意思是该是……的时候了。 It is time that we got
