Stevenson?s novels are of versatile themes and sophisticated structure. His thriller and adventure novels possess creative and dramatic power. If Stevenson became known and popular by his first novel Treasure Island published in the year 1883, it was the allegorical story The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde that laid foundation for his status in English literature and marked the maturity of his writing skills and styles. With extraordinary imagination, Stevenson presents us with the double nature of man, showing his deep insight into human nature. With profound theme, distinct perspective of human nature and superior writing skills, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has been explored by scholars from various angles of view combining literature, psychology, linguistic communication and medicine.
