The HPD data model is the heart of the database storage and is the strength of CARIS HPD. The same model is used for the Source and Product databases. Using the one model creates a common link between the Source and Product databases and means changes can be tracked between these. What this means is that when a product is created it is not independent from the source database. Every time that product is opened, the database can be contacted for any possible changes to the data in the product. The product can then be updated automatically, from the source database. Products can then be exported to suitable formats, such as S-57/ENCs. CARIS HPD databases combine the source and product information in one integrated solution.
