* * During acute infection, many people infected with HBV have no symptoms, while others suffer from ‘flu-like’ symptoms, and symptoms such as tiredness, nausea, diarrhoea, skin rash, and jaundice. Jaundice describes the yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes often seen in patients with significant liver disease. It is caused by the build up of a waste product in the blood, which is normally processed and eliminated by the healthy liver.
