Walter Scott, Jane Austen The romantic poems In contrast to the rationalism of the enlighteners and classicists, the R. paid attention to the spiritual and emotional life of man. Nature, often personified, also plays an important role in their works. The elder generation of R Lake poets/escapist romanticists: Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey, who reflected the thinking of classes ruined by the bourgeoisie, turned to feudal past (the “merry old England”) as their ideal, and turned to nature for protection.
