In 1934, he graduated from the Tianjin Anglo-Chinese college (天津英国教会学校新学书院) which was in fact a secondary school. In 1940, he was appointed as associate professor in Chongqing university . From 1941 to 1942, he was the head of the English department in Guizhou Guiyang Normal College. From 1942 to 1943, he was the English professor of Chengdu Guanghua University. In 1953,
