The hange in number refle ts the expansion of Wuxi ity.In this paper, w e extra t spatial hange information from 1970 stopographi map and 1984 s, 1991 sand 1998 sremote sensing images.Then w e study hanges in number and s ale of tow n in Xishan using GIS.Then w e build spatial model of tow n expansion w hi h will be helpful to predi t tow n development s ale and serve tow n planning in the future.The paper offers three models to predi t town development s ale, w hi h in lude linear fun tion, power fun tion and index number fun tion.The model of power fun tion is a good model topredi t further tow n development.
