We developed regression models for individ al growth, age str ct re and biomass and analyzed pop - lation density, age str ct re, biomass dynamics and s rvivorship c rves for local pop lations and the entire pop lation in Mengla, Xish angbanna, Y nnan Province, SW China. O r objective was to nderstand the pop lation dynamics to aid protection of this endangered plant. Methods We established different n mbers and sizes of plots ( 50 m @ 20 m or 100 m @ 20 m ) in five lo- cal patches according to patch size, and each plot was divided into 10 m @ 10 m s bplots to meas re the height, diameter at breast height ( DBH ) or basal diameter and crown of each individ al 0. 5 m height.
