ABSTRACT
Kobasa began her research on Hardiness as early as the 1970s, who then described the person who bears the personality of Hardiness as the individual who keeps healthy when
experiencing intense life stress by exhibiting a series of positive attitudes , firm
convictions and behavioral inclinations. Although Chinese people have no lack of the personality of Hardiness, there are few studies on Hardiness in China. Under this circumstance, there is great significance in theory exploration and practice value if further researches are made.
The main task of this paper is to establish the psychological structure of university students’ Hardiness and construct the corresponding scale, and then try to apply it in practice. Based on the research achievements at home and abroad, this paper fulfilled this task by developing a relative questionnaire for those students which includes 172 open-ended questionnaires investigation, 36 interviews alone, 592 preliminary questionnaires and 528 formal questionnaires. The reliability and validity of the questionnaires is very high. With exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of those
data,this paper concludes that there are six dimensionalities in the Hardiness of university
students. Finally, the questionnaires made by this paper are applied in some of the universities in Shandong Province. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:
Through analyzing the exploratory factors, this paper concludes that hardiness is a psychological structure with six dimensions, including growth, optimism, initiative, self-enhancement, self-control and aptness, which basically correspond with the previous theoretical conception.
The questionaires designed by this paper can be regarded as a kind of evaluative implement on university students’ Hardiness because of their high reliability and fair validity both in content and structure.
